The project has been launched by the Department of Posts to revitalize the post office network to enable it to play a greater role in the socio economic transformation of the country.A series of fully upgraded and completely new look post offices has been launched in the rural areas covering 10 postal circles.
The post offices henceforth will be a single window facility for banking, money remittance and information delivery.The change has been" physical look" as well as "feel" wise.Upgradation of IT enabled services,designing exterior and interiors, improvement of service delivery are the major components of the make over.
The project has twin objectives-to make Indian postal system more vibrant and responsive and to make visible and positive differences in the postal delivery system in the country where more than 89% of the post offices are in rural areas.The Ministry of IT and Telecommunication has set up a Steering Committee and a core team for maintaining liaison with the Department of Posts and better service delivery.
The project is being seen as a significant step towards achieving the motto of the Indian Postal system" Dak Seva -Jan Seva"
