The Battle of Plassey is important because of the events that followed it.The new nawab of Bengal Mir Zafar was a mere puppet in the hands of the Bristish and when he failed to read the writings on the wall, he had to give place to Mir Kasim, a nominee of the company in 1760.However their honeymoon period also ended as soon as Kasim defied the British authority and the defiance culminated in the Battle of Buxar with Mir Kasim,the Mughal Emperor and the Nawab of Oudh in one side and the British on the other in 1764.The Battle of Plassey had made the British a powerful player in the politics of Bengal whereas the viscory in the battle of Buxar gave them unquestionable authority over whole Northern India and made them the most powerful contender for the supremacy of the whole country.The Bristish now faced the Afghans and the Marathas for the final struggle for the empire of the whole Hindustan.If the Battle of Plassey had imposed the European yoke on Bengal, the victory at Buxar riveted the shackles of bondage.
